I’m looking at getting an FZ2 this week but I can’t decide if I need the HDMI connection or not. This connection is only available on the blue ray option, correct? Is the only purpose for this connection to output to a HD-TV with an HDMI input? Is there any other reason why I would need this connection on my laptop? I don’t have any blue ray movies and I don’t plan on buying any soon, so is this a waste of money for me? Thanks for your help!

You have to tell us where you are, as the models vary by country. In the USA, the HDMI port comes with the nVidia graphics card as opposed to the Intel graphics. It just happens that the BluRay drive only comes on models with nVidia graphcs.

You may want the HDMI port in the future, as more and more LCD monitors are coming with them.

I am ordering a model from the US. So the FZ2's with the Nvida 8400m GT card and DVD-RW drive come with the HDMI port also? I hope so, because I don't want to spend the extra money for a Blueray drive that I will most likely never use.
