My Vaio VGN-SZ460N/C has a broken and not so broken screen. The LED Backlight on the screen is not working! The screen DOES show a picture and has no cracks etc. but the screen is just dark. Any suggestions on what the problem is. I don't want to have to buy a new screen on for this since its over $600. I also am out of warranty. Any suggestions?

Did it happen all of a sudden or was there an event(like it flickering) that occured before this?

Did you check that the screen was not manually turned off or to lowest settings via FN command?

LED backlights shouldn't die unless there's a connection problem. However, in addition to the backlight being turned off by software / keyboard command, there's usually a switch somewhere around the hinges which automatically turns off the backlight when the display is closed. Maybe this switch is misbehaving.

Well, I TEsted it out by detaching the LED screen and connecting it with My SZ120P and the screen has no light! So I am guessing that the problem is with the screen itself or the inverter. And since LEDs are reliable tech I think the inverter might be burnt out? What do you think?

The LED lights run at low voltage so they don't need an inverter, so it shouldn't be that although there might be some other component which shares the power between the individual LEDs.

really? Then what is this circuit board strip underneath the LCD panel? where it connects the video cable to the motherboard? the strip where it states the model number etc.

Either the LEDs need more supporting electronics than I would expect or you have got a display with a normal CCFL backlight and inverter.

No I got a premium Vaio SZ. I also have a non premium vaio so I can see the scren differences. The lcd is really thin. Also I heard that there is no inverter on LED models from asking around.
