    Have you tried manually changing the output?
    I've never used XP on this.

    As your laptop only came with XP if you have Vista retail discs you can try installing that way. You can get all the drivers from the Sony support website.
    Is your recovery partition gone?
    I think you should try and order your W7 upgrade discs and forget about XP.
