Hope someone can help as we are traveling and rely on our FZ490 for maps. The screen brightness flickers at times and sometimes goes off completely although the laptop is running and the image is still there (in the darkness). Anything we can do?? Have noticed that if I turn off then back onagain the screen comes right for a time. Would really appreciate help on this but please refrain from commenting other than a specific solution or advice . Thank you very much!

Either there is a bad connection (test this by moving the screen forward and back when it goes dark and see if it flickers or come to life) or the backlight is about to die. This could be the backlight itself or the inverter. See here for details.

Thanks. Noticed if I squeeze the right hand hinge I can get the screen to brighten but right now its all good. When it goes dark though nothing will happen when I move the screen but when its ok the screen will flicker if I wiggle the screen.
