It has nothing to do with the battery...
If it asks about a file then like it says but the windows disk in the laptop and restart...

Thank you for the reply. But like I said i am travelling and so I dont have the disc with me and i would ideally not want to spend a huge amount of money buying a new windows cd/DVD.
Is there any way i could start it up again without the discs?
    Thank you kindly.

i googled this and it seems that you will need the disk to do the repair.

there was one person who said the problem went away when they started up with ALL their usb devices UNPLUGGED, but i'm not sure if you have any plugged in.

you may want to print out/jot down the instructions from the following link:
http://www.windowsvista.windowsreinstall.com/vistaultimate/repairstartup/part1.htm (make sure you read part 2 as well) and maybe take your system to a sony store near you. they may have a vista disk you can borrow.

also, if it's an option, you could restore to factory settings from your restore partition, but you'll lose all your data.

good luck though. i've been in that situation and it definitely sucks. i now carry around an OS disk wherever I go.

I believe there is an OS repair function if you hit f10 during boot.

hi and thank you guys so much for the advice. For some reason the f10 isn't working either.
Losing all my data would be a tragedy! I will look at that link carl669. Thanks. But i would have to do it on my phone!! How ironic!
ill let you guys know the outcome.
    thanks a mill again.

i know one thing for sure, after this mess is sorted out and i hope and pray it is, no more Vista. It just isnt worth this!! XP Pro here I come!
Another unrelated question, if I bunged in another 2gb Ram, would the computer recognize it?
    thanks all

just fyi, but when i had the issue, it was with XP Pro. i say just carry a disc with the OS no matter what.
