Coffee spilled over the keyboard of this lovely unit and now it does not type the letters pressed. Tried to cleanup to no avail.
Since I have replaced keyboards on other laptops, I downloaded Service Manual and reviewed the instructions carefully. Didn't see anything too hard or unusual so contacted the Sony parts store and ordered a new keyboard.
Parts arrived and project began. Uneventful until keyboard was apparently being held by something not mentioned in the service manual. As it turns out, the under side of the keyboard has a gold post (at the top under the 7/8 keys) that connects the keyboard to the case or motherboard. The keyboard pulled loose but the gold post remained.
The new keyboard has the same gold post, but of course I cannot install it without removing the old gold post from the laptop case. There is a hole in the top of the gold post which appears to be threaded. It has occured to me that I might find the correct size screw to insert and be able to remove the post if it is reverse threaded, but I have not tried that as yet. Was hoping to get better advice from someone with experience on this kind of unit before proceeding.
Can anyone help me out?? Many Thanks.
