Hey guys - I apoligize if this has been asked before...

I just got a TXN25N/B with Vista Business pre-installed. Not very happy with the performance of Vista on this laptop, so I'd like to install WinXP Pro on it.

Unfortunately, Sony support does not provide any XP drivers for the TXN25N/B, so I was wondering if I could substitute XP drivers from another model... will this work? From what I've read here, it seems like the XP drivers for the TXN17P7 may work with the TXN25N/B... can anyone verify this?

And which drivers are essential? (motherboard, etc.)

    Thanks so much! :)

    yes.

    Go to ftp://ftp.vaio-link.com

and download the TX3 drivers & applications. Once you install your machine with these drivers in the proper order, you can install the smartWi and the Vista driver for the bluetooth for your TXN25.

That would take care of it. All the drivers at vaiolink are compatible but missing the SmartWi and have the incorrect bluetooth (older version).

I am happily camping with my TXN27 and XP ...

    Great, thanks for that link...

But where should I look? The FTP directory is huge, couldn't find anything specifically to the TX3

    Great, thanks again, SW!

BTW, you mentioned they must be installed in the "proper order"... could you please tell me the order in which they must be installed or give me a link to a page?

    thanks again!

Ok, I'm clear on the first two Utility apps, that seems to make sense. ;)

For the rest of the TX3 drivers, do I install each driver itself one by one, or will launching some utility install them for me?

I downloaded the TX3 Drivers and Utilities, but don't see anything called "Notebook Control Driver" and "I/O Driver"... are they under a different file name, or do I need to go back to the FTP site and grab those somewhere else?

Thanks for your patience... this is turning out to be way more of a project than I expected, lol.

    Thanks again, SW...

You know, I think I'm just gonna return this TX to the store - I also have the infamous keyboard "hump" that several others have mentioned.
I like the TX, but think I can wait it out for 1-2 months when the core duo TZ comes out.

This thread will come in handy, as I will most likely want to install a dual-boot config with XP on that as well.

Yeah, I think you're probably right on that... so I came up with a better solution: I returned the TXN25 and exchanged it for an Apple Macbook! :D

I've been a PC user for the past 10 years, but screw this... I'm not gonna jump through hoops trying to get a $2000+ laptop to run a pre-installed OS efficiently. Sony should have never put Vista on this, it's clearly a WinXP machine!

Nah, I feel screwed more by Sony on this one - at least the Macbook can actually run Vista. ;)

I'll look into the T series again next year when they bump up the specs a bit.

    Hi guys,
    Vaio newbie here. :D

I've recently bought an european Vaio TX3. After a clean XP reinstall everything works fine except for volume keys (but the near-placed mute key works fine!).

I don't know why, I've hotkey driver installed and Fn+key combos work fine.

Any guess? Pleeeease, is 3 days I'going crazys searchin' on google. ^^'

    Thanks a lot.

don't know if it's relevant but i have a tx36gp hk version that comes with winxp pre-installed and a copy of vista business for your own use. not quite sure if the recovery disc from this machine to be useful on those vista pre-installed ones.

Is it worth it to try to get XP on a new TXN25N/B or look for a different laptop...has anyone done it successfully without any issues?
