Hi, I just got my sony vaio and love the design a lot at first glance.

Then I notice when I adjust the screen, there is a ripple at the bottom left screen. It's so sensitive that it probably can detect an earthquake! I searched around and it seems like some hardware problem. Anybody else have the same problem? What should I do? I like the computer but I don't want a defective one.

Also, the new laptop is as loud as my 3 yr old Dell. Especially when I wake it up, it has a sharp ZZZZZZZZ sort of noise which is very loud. The fan will turn on and go crazy even when I didn't do anything. It may have something to do with the bloat ware but the wake up ZZZZZZZZZ sound is kind of scary. Anybody have the same feeling?

I really want to love this laptop. It's just quite disappointing.

    Thanks for any suggestions.

Now I realize that ZZZZZZZ noise might be from the optical drive....no idea how to reduce it....

Haha yes, mine does that too. it sounds like it's loading a disc, right? BBBZZZAAAA----NNNNGGG. I've never thought about it very much but come to think of it it might just be a simple boot device order thing in the BIOS (set it to boot from HDD first).

I have no idea what you mean about a screen ripple though.

Yeah, should be able to fix by arrange boot order.

The screen thing is definitely hardware problem. When you poke the screen, there is some ripple around the area. The thing about my screen is when I tilting it or shake it, there is the same kind of ripple around the corner. It's like when I shake the screen, something is poking the screen at the boarder.

I talked to sony and they give me two options, refund or replace with a brand new one.

Really like the idea of this computer......if I still like it after 3 days, will go with the replacement

It sounds like the screen isn't properly mounted in the bezel... There are a bunch of plastic tabs in there, one of which is probably pushing up against the front of the display. I can flex my display bezel quite a bit but I don't get any distortion.

Yeah, that's the Sony tech diagnose.

I totally disabled the optical driver from BIOS, then the squeaky sound is gone when wake up and it's even slightly faster to wake it up now.

Only worried about the heating problem a little. The vent seems to be obstructed by screen when in use.
Played some mid range game and it got to 127F after 30 minutes or so.

52 degrees C? That's well within normal temperatures... It's barely above idle.
