I'm interested in the Sony Vaio Flip 15A with i7 Core and Nvidia GeForce 735M. But I also like the HP Envy x360 with Intel HD graphics but no graphics card. I got a few questions...

    1) Which one would you buy in general?

    2) Which would you buy if you were a casual gamer?

    3) Sony stopped making this Vaio 15A. Which laptop is best for availability of parts if you needed to replace parts in the future?

Do you plan to also use the high res texture mods, like iCEnhancer for GTA 4? And are you hoping to get 1080p, 60fps, high settings or what is your expectation for how well you want it to run?

    Also, what is your budget?

For a game like GTA V expect decent, smooth graphics even if it means sacrificing some graphics but not all. I dont expect 1080p graphics necessarily but I dont want to sacrifice too much in graphics.

Budget has nothing to do with it. Just want to know which of the 2 laptops are better for my needs.

    Which laptop would you get?

If you want to be able to run GTA V and future games in the next few years @ 1080p medium settings at least 30fps, I would not buy either of these laptops.

If your budget is at least around $1200-1500, I'd go with Clevo P650SE with 970M 3GB and i7-4710HQ. If your budget is higher, I'd get a laptop with 980M 8GB VRAM.

If your budget is lower than $1200, you might want to consider a used or refurb laptop with 870M or 860M.

Hi, I dont think you read my last post. As I said, I want to play GTA V given less than 1080p with some but not all sacrifice to graphics. That being the case, is it still possible to play this game on either laptop?

I doubt either of those two laptops will be able to handle GTA V 30fps even below 1080p, for example 1600x900 or 1280x720, etc., on lowest possible settings.

And if you plan to keep using your laptop for the next few years, it is going to struggle even more with future games. You need a better graphics card, I would get something at least with 860M or better.

    Minimum Specs
    • OS: Windows 8.1 64 Bit, Windows 8 64 Bit, Windows 7 64 Bit Service Pack 1, Windows Vista 64 Bit Service Pack 2* (*NVIDIA video card recommended if running Vista OS)
    • Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz (4 CPUs) / AMD Phenom 9850 Quad-Core Processor (4 CPUs) @ 2.5GHz
    • Memory: 4GB
    • Video Card: NVIDIA 9800 GT 1GB / AMD HD 4870 1GB (DX 10, 10.1, 11)
    • Sound Card: 100% DirectX 10 compatible
    • HDD Space: 65GB
    Recommended Specs
    • OS: Windows 8.1 64 Bit, Windows 8 64 Bit, Windows 7 64 Bit Service Pack 1
    • Processor: Intel Core i5 3470 @ 3.2GHZ (4 CPUs) / AMD X8 FX-8350 @ 4GHZ (8 CPUs)
    • Memory: 8GB
    • Video Card: NVIDIA GTX 660 2GB / AMD HD7870 2GB

Most new laptops with 860M seem to start around $900 or so.

I believe this MSI is perhaps the cheapest I've ever seen at $650: http://www.officedepot.com/a/produc...Q18-online-VQ19-591640-VQ20-72862821716-VQ21-

No idea about the build quality of this particular MSI laptop, however.

Here are a few more from $899

Refurb of the Lenovo on Amazon is $836: http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00K6ZIO2K/ref=dp_olp_all_mbc?ie=UTF8&condition=all

EDIT: if you can wait a few weeks or months, there will probably be more available used/refurb and the new ones will be cheaper when more manufacturers release laptops with 965M

Thanks moviemarketing. This MSI looks good.. I was hoping to find one with touch scrren also. Unfortunately. Office Depot is out of stock and ebay isnt selling one for less than $900. I greatly appreciate your help. I'll still look around to see if I can find one.

    EDIT:
I saw your amended edit on your last post. I really cant wait. My laptop broke last week and I'm in dire need of a replacement as soon as I can find a good one. But to be honest witj you, I'm really feeling the Sony Vaio Flip.

Maybe you can find something older with at least 765M or 770M and quad core i7 CPU that will still be able to play some games.

The 735M in the Vaio Flip is very weak, so it cannot handle any recent games. The Vaio Flip also uses dual core ULV energy saver CPU which is very weak compared to quad core i7.

I only got a budget if $800. I cant spend anything over that. If you know of laptops with higher specs selling for no more than that then I'll look into it.
