I got sony vaio VGN-AR41L. It came with vista installed, I hated it and installed xp to my vaio.
Now, I got all drivers installed but still when I plug in my headphones the speakers won't go off. I hear the audio from the speakers and headphones. How do you make it work right?
    Thanks

It is a driver issue. For some bizarre reason Sony decided to use a software controlled switch to turn the speakers on and off when using headphones.

Every other machine I have ever seen uses a hardware switch built into the jack. I guess this DOES make for the option of using both at one time. Come to think of it in a studio situation that would be a plus, but...

I do believe that this issue has been resolved with the driver under XP. Use the search box at the top of the page here and dig around a bit. I know I saw that someone found a way around the issue. It was a bit convoluted as I remember, but what can you expect when you use an OS that the manufacturer isn't supporting on a particular model machine.
