    Hi

I'm looking at getting an SZ3 with HSDPA.

Thing is I live in Italy, but am travelling to the UK and want to use HSDPA there.

Can someone give me pointers on how it works and how you can use it in different countries?

I'm guessing it connects via mobile phone networks??

Grateful for any links or forums that would help me work this out ! :)

I believe you need a contract to use that, just like cellphones. But, some companies might have a prepaid, or to go, or a by day or by week or month contract. You have to check out the mobile phone companies for that.

I'm in the US, and mobile phone companies like Sprint, T-Mobile do offer wireless card for LAN access without yearly contract, but I'm not sure about wireless WAN like HSDPA or EDGE. But I am thinking since they have offer wireless LAN card without yearly contract, maybe they would offer such short term service for WWAN.

Since you're in Europe, T-Mobile has networks all over Europe, I suggest you start with them. Good luck.

I work for a carrier in the US - DO NOT purchase a laptop with the Broadband built in unless it is a removable PCI mini cards.

Why - when sony came out with the SZ series with EDGE, Cingular was already FINISHING the roll out of their 3G Network (High Speed). The EDGE stuff was obsolete when it came out in Sony notebooks.

Use an express cards (HSDPA modems will be out soon) or a PCMCIA card.

    Thanks

You can use a T-Mobile Pay as You Go sim card. This is just the normal voice pay as you go card you can buy everywhere for as little as 1 GBP. Infact they are doing them free right now on the T-Mobile UK site.

You can surf with this for 1 GBP/day. Topups range from 5 GBP up.

    Hope that helps.
