I have a Vaio VGN-NR498E and the graphics is the X3100 graphics card and since i downgraded it to XP I need to find a driver for its graphics. And do I really need to download a chipset driver?

I currently have installed the 965 intel graphics mobile driver and i have to use directx 8.0 to run cs source. Chipset is none.

Sorry, I don't understand the question. I think you're asking whether you need to install a chipset driver. I would say that it's a good idea, yes (especially if you have any unknown devices or yellow exclamation marks in your device manager).

Not sure what you're trying to show with those screenshots either, but if you're having trouble with graphics drivers, I would first try the Sony one from their support site. If that doesn't solve the issue, try the latest generic Intel X3100 driver instead.

    Hope that helps. :)

Scott, how did you get XP loaded on your VGN-NR498E? I have tried the dual boot method but I still can't get XP to recognize the hard drive during the install.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

I used a program called nlite to make 498E detect the installation disk by mounting the sata drivers onto the windows installer.

I'm loading XP on a Vaio VGN-NR498E as I type this. After a couple frustrating hours of dealing with an external floppy drive to load the SATA driver, I did what Scott did. The SATA driver I used is..

    Intel ICH8M-E/M SATA AHCI Controller

Slip-streaming the driver with nLite is the way to go. No need to hit F6 while XP is loading, it loads the driver automatically.

I'm not allowed to post URLs, below is very good step by step instructions on how to create the disk with nLite - without the http and www

I know this is an old post but I came across it while searching for answers on installing XP on this model Vaio. I hope it helps someone else.
