    i personally deleted the recovery partition after making the backup discs.

    You can partition your disc with a third party app like EASEUS Partition master or gparted.

    This is explained in the Vaio Manual quite well - its done using Vista's or Windows7's "tools".

    Computer Managment -> Disk Managment

    I would suggest keeping it - yes, definitely create the backup discs, but the space you loose to the recovery partition is not important, and its good to know its there.

    The windows help files are quite usefull, open the help files up and search on disk

    I would advise like the others to create a backup disk just to be save and then sorry :) Also look up on options what sort of partitions and setup you would want to have before making any partitions, so that you have to keep changing or editing them.

    Keep in mind there is an EISA partition which should not be visible but mine is for some reason and the X: partition which you should not see also and never give your partitions a X: , as you might run into some problems (not sure if your model works the same as mine thou but on the save side)

    I did the partition using disk management, I created new volume (logical hard drive), so it is divided 161 GB and 127 GB.

    I have a question, when I create the logical drive, does I lose the Vaio recovery feature, and when I have to format PC to the original factory setting, does the logical drive will be erased or remain?

    Well any changes towards the Hard disk will have an X% chance of losing or corrupting the files. Especially noted when switching the Hard Disk to Dynamic.

    If you choose restore C: to factory settings, I would believe C: is the only effected partition. As I have not done a recovery having partitions, I dare not confrim this.

    Hope that helps you :)

    If you use the recovery discs, the recovery partition remains.

    You should be able to only recover your C drive and keep the D partition, once it kept my data on the D partition the other time it wiped it clear... so do an external backup.

    Also - if you do a recovery, partition the drive during the setup in case - i beleive the MFT (Master File table) is in the way later on.

    That is really valuable info. I was thinking if I did a fresh install after fixing some of these errors I still have, to make a small partition to make a back copy of all the notes and files I have compile fixing my note book. Can't imgine all those notes being deleted now :eek:
