Is this a Sony product or part of Windows Vista?

If it is a Sony product, is anyone getting a better connection with the Windows utility?

IMHO, SmartWi is utter crud. It doesn't understand IPv6, it doesn't handle multiple simultaneous connections, it uses a mix between bitmapped graphics and scalable fonts, so it doesn't display right with a correctly set DPI. Oh, and if you walk past the machine with a paired cell phone, it may disconnect you. And many other annoyances.

My recommendation: Unless you use Sprint WWAN and thus need it, uninstall it, and go with the Windows tools.

Sorry, I may be wrong, but SmartWi for me is something that you manage the device. What manages the connection is always Windows Tools, or something else. The same goes for the IPv6.

I've had my share of challenges with SmartWi but there's no other way to control Bluetooth, Sprint 3G, and WAN.

The SmartWi I'm running on my TT has been the best of what I typically have experienced. Minimal crashes and its been very responsive.

You're partially wrong, alas, because SmartWi has the ability to control the Windows tools that establish and disconnect connections.
From what I could tell, SmartWi thinks you aren't connected when you have an IPv6 connection, and will bounce your network connection in order to re-establish it. Which disconnects you.

Granted, not a lot of networks use IPv6 yet, but some do, and it's an integrated and supported part of Vista.

    hello Arth1,

I just replaced the IFX-498 with one having the sim slot in order to use any sim card,
and I have a problem with the "SMART WI CONNECTION UTILITYwith verizon" software in my
    VGN-Z790DLX .............
every time I put ON the wwan it work for only 20 seconds ,
    first- find the device ,
second -search for the network ,
and after the SMART WI CONNECTION UTILITY put automatically OFF the wwan,

    what do you suggest?

    thank you
