Hybrid Graphics only works with Sony's old driver (not the newer community hacked one), but I'm not sure how well the switching works with the Metro start screen. Everything else should (and does) work just fine.

I don't think it will work as expected since win 8 just consumer preview and device driver may not work correctly at this time :).

It won't get better if Sony or another company with a similar graphics setup doesn't release updated drivers. Windows 8 has an updated driver model (WDDM 1.2), and the consumer preview is already highly finished when it comes to the hardware layers of the OS.

It all comes down to whether an updated driver will be released or not.

As in the past, the only way to get updated nVidia drivers for the Z1 is from the excellent drivers published by members of this community, those who have done the famed "BIOS Hack" (a.k.a. "the BIOS Hack people!") and a separate set of drivers for those who haven't done the hack but want updated nVidia drivers that work on the hybrid graphics platform of the Z1.

The question is, will anyone care enough to write them for the Z1? It doesn't have a touch screen and, according to Laptopmag.com here W7 outperforms W8 more than vice-versa and I have yet to hear an argument for installing it on a mainstream laptop like the Z1.

That said, there are many here who have installed at least the Developers Preview version and I think a lot of them liked it. Check other threads on this very subject or the Owners Lounge.

EDIT: Head on over to this thread ; it works! (mostly)

I really hope that Dell/Alienware release Windows 8 drivers for their M11x R1 laptop. I honestly think that they would be our nearest hope for "official" hybrid graphics drivers on Windows 8.

I hope so too. We need to get a good look at the structure of the Windows 8 hybrid driver. People have reported success installing the Windows 7 community developed driver on Windows 8 CP, but I'd really like to see a native Windows 8 hybrid driver.
