    Hello,

    I have a Sony Vaio S480p.

I have read the different posts on this forum about how and in which order I should reinstall the Sony drivers after a Vista installation to make the FN keys (Brightness, Sound Volume) work as they did in Windows XP.

I have also read that, to date (i.e. 17 June 2007), Sony had not released new drivers for my laptop(?).

I tried a "method" made for Sony SZ serie (I have a Sony S) and explained there: http://trevinchow.com/blog/2007/02/15/how-to-get-vista-working-on-your-sony-sz/ (where you have to install drivers in a specific order and reboot repeatedly).

I did not work for me and my Sony S480P

Is anybody in the same situation as me (it is REALLY bothersome not to be able to tune screenbrightness) and what should I do? Can we expect Sony to release any updated drivers and if they already did, where are they?

Thanks in advance for any help/input!

    Pierre

Try repeating the Vaio Event Service installation or the DLL Utilities (not sure what the exact name is) after following the proper order discussed somewhere.
My Fn-Brightness key works on my S560 after reinstalling (do not uninstall. Just reinstall)

The important thing to remember is that certain drivers/programs must be installed before other drivers/programs can be installed. To get the brightness to work, I had to install an nvidia 98.12 driver I found on google and not the one supplied by sony. After installing that, I installed all the drivers/programs in succeeding order after the video drvier and the brightness FN button worked.

Some of the utilities simply refuse to install (Wrong Sony model message appears) . My laptop is a Sony S480P.

I can't find any "model.txt" or "model.log" file in the Windoes directory to modify my model number, as explained elsewher in this forum.

Also, when you say "do not uninstall. Just reinstall", do you mean reinstallling the drivers again over my previous installlation?

    Thanks for the input guys!

    Pierre.

    uninstall your video card, reboot

install DLL and shared library, reboot

    install utilities reboot

you can get all this to your model here: ftp://ftp.vaio-link.com/pub/vaio/original/

forgot: reinstall your video card after the FN keys are working.

    "uninstall your video card, reboot"

    1. Do you mean that I need to uninstall it from Device manager? When I did that then rebooted it automatically reinstalled on reboot. Is it ok?

"forgot: reinstall your video card after the FN keys are working"

    2. My Display adapter says "Nvidia Geforece 6200".
    a. How do you "reinstall a video card", especially in view of 1. ?
    b. which driver or file should I use for such reinstallation?

Thanks a lot for your help!
    Pierre.

Fn key are software controlled. my vaio's Fn keys are controlled by the VAIO event service. try get hold of the newer SZ win vista version of it, that might work.

*Reinstall Windows Vista. Its always better to start afresh. It only takes 25min - optional/recommended
*If all fails u may have to update BIOS-Firmware to S5/6 'R0103V0' ftp://ftp.vaio-link.com/PUB/DOWNLOADS/PH/B/SYS/PHBSYS-00877820-UN.EXE
*Restart and press F2 when it shows VAIO Logo screen to boot into BIOS
