Hello everyone, new to the forum and also to Sony notebooks. This is my first VAIO that replaced a Toshiba notebook under the BestBuy lemon policy. Anything I should know about the AX series notebooks? Thank You.

Did you get the 17" AX? I saw that last night at BB and it looked beautiful and comes with the X-700 video card with 256MB. Sweet.

Nice 160GB hard drive.

How long does it take for Bestbuy to honor the no-lemon policy?
It's been 10 days for my laptop to undergo "extended test" (3 repairs have been performed on it in the past).
Thanks -

Depending on how firm you are with them...my belief is if it has been in 3 times...I would say that you should tell them you want a new one or that original cost back to buy a new one. That is going to be your best bet.
Oh and by the way, talk to a manager and not a tech. -
Yes, I got the 17.
After 3 repairs you are entitled to a replacement should your computer require a 4th repair. Keep all your service records. Make sure you read and understand the Lemon Policy incase the store tries to screw you over. Trust me on this, the store manager tried to give me a cheaper replacement, he said they use the face value of your laptop to determine the credit amount...WRONG!...You should stay in contact with the Service Center for the progress of your repairs, don't deal with the stores because they don't make the call on whether or not you get a replacement. Only the service center can authorize a replacement. Just be nice to them and ask them to grant you a replacement.
The store is entitled to replace your computer up to the original purchase price. I got lucky, the Sony AX was more than my old Toshiba, but the Sony was the only one in the store that had the TV tuner feature. The salesman told me he was obligated to find a replacement with the same features without charging me the difference in price!! Good luck with yours.
It's a good idea to get the manager involved, but in my case he wasn't helpful at all. Only the Service Center can make the call on a new replacement unit. -
Thanks for the reply. Do you have the contact for the service center?

I called the Service center in Georgia, I think her name was Brenda. I wrote her name down on one of my service records. When I get home on Sunday, I'll double check and update this post.

Thanks a lot. I tried to get the contact for the service center in chicago, but the store wouldn't give me one. I'll see if I can reason with Brenda so she can give me the number for Chicago.

Look on your previous service receipts. You should have drop off and pickup receipts for each time you had service done. Look on one of the pickup receipts. The service centers address and phone should be at the top. Call that number and you should be able to speak to the contact for Chicago.

I found it. Thanks a lot!
