My Vaio is freaking out and I have no idea what to do...hope there is an expert somewhere out there in this forum that can tell me how to get my laptop working again.
Monday night...laptop & wireless connection were working fine, did not load any new software, did a normal shut down, and went to bed. Next day, turn on the computer...the Vaio logo appears, then it goes to the DOS screen for the safe mode load options. No matter which of the options I choose at that screen, it then goes to the windows logo screen, flashes a blue screen, then returns to the original Vaio logo and the whole process begins again. It is like its caught in an endless loop and I have no idea how to get the thing to boot up and run.
The only thing I can catch on the brief flash of the blue screen is "beginning physical dump of memory" but it flashes to fast to read anymore. I do not have a recovery CD to boot from, have tried booting from a buddies WIndows Media Center Cd no luck, and I do not want to do a restore since I am not 100% sure I have all my files backed up.
The Geek Squad, where I have my warranty at Best Buy, wants $150 to copy the hard drive [a little too high in my opinion]. Is there anybody out there that has had this happen to their Vaio and if so, how did you get it working again without losing everything through the Restore function.
Last thing, I did visit the Sony website and found an area for a recovery dvd but am not sure what a recovery dvd does since I have never had to do this...does it wipe the hard drive to where I lose all my data or what? Here is the link... http://servicesales.sel.sony.com/ec...tion=modelSearch&searchText=vgnfe550g...maybe somebody can tell me if this is what I need or not. Thanks for any help this forum can give me!!

Just take out your harddrive and stick it in a usb hdd case (just check on e-bay or a local computer store, shouldn't cost you more then 10 bucks or so) so you can plug it in to another computer and back up your data. Then put it back in your Vaio and restore your computer. The disks in your link are the ones you need.
Help!!! Help!! Vaio Vgnfe-550g
