I have a Sony Vaio S 13 with Intel HD4000 graphics. I have disabled the Intel Graphics Power Saving feature and also the Ambient Light Sensor in the settings. However, when entering a program with a dark background, the screen brightness lowers itself and when I return to the desktop it goes up back to normal. The screen brightness does not remain stable.

Is there another setting that I'm missing? I want to completely disable automatic correction or changing of my screen brightness.

I had this issue on my fresh-install copy of Windows 8 on my Z21. Even though I was disabling the Intel power saving feature, it was still dimming with dark backgrounds.

I downloaded the latest driver for my Intel HD3000 device from intel.com and voila - fixed! Hope that works for you too!
