Alright, i had some water marks in my sony sz and decided to open it up, no problem, i cleaned it. But when i was putting everything back some how i accidentally cut a piece of green tape that supposidly gives power to part of the screen, So now one side of my screen has no light and therefore no picture. Does anyone know is this is repairable and for how much? Any recommended place?

Try and get Sony Warranty to cover it. If it will not, Sony will charge you $700 to asess the problem and then credit that towards the LCD repair which will run you over $1K. Bottom line is if Sony will not repair under warranty, it would be cheaper to purchase another laptop.

I would just do an Ebay search for a new LCD it will be MUCH cheaper than what pwaggs suggested. Though some experience in taking apart electronics is a must if you plan on doing it yourself...

Is a new lcd needed? The lcd i have is fine except that wiring?

Hard to see any detail from that pic, but I'm guessing that "green tape" is a flat cable. Is the LCD on the blank side really off (if you look at it at an angle can you sort of see video?). If it is still on, then you've only severed the power source, which means it will probably be easier to fix. If you're handy with a soldering iron, you might be able to reconnect the traces on the cable.
To answer your question, the LCD itself is probably okay, but the cable needs replacing or fixing.
In regards to trying to get Sony to cover it, doing so is dishonest act since it was broken by the user. -
I have no warranty so it would be out of pocket. CPU was not on and lcd is perfectly fine. The green tape is just my problem.

brewt is right...that green tape is a ribbon cable. your best bet is to go on ebay and look for a replacement LCD and replace it yourself. i don't know of anyone who has repaired a severed ribbon cable before.
