Hi does anyone know how to replace the GPU or graphics card on my Sony Vaio VGN-FS515E. I have heard that it is possible. I currently have integrated graphics 910 and it's really crap cuz it can't play new games like CS source etc. Also I can't quite seem to find the graphics card. I've opened up my laptop and taken out all the screws and I suspect the GPU is underneath the board but I can't seem to take the board out. Please can someone help me?!!

It is not possible to replace the graphics card, for most laptops.

It isn't possible on any laptop with an integrated GPU, and only about 0.01% of notebooks are upgradeable. Sorry :(...I wish they were too.

FYI, your integrated GPU is actually on the northbridge of the motherboard, which means it is a part of the motherboard and cannot be replaced. Even then, there is no PCIe X16.

Unfortunately, laptops aren't as upgradeable as desktops.

    Why?
How hard can it be for manufactures to make it replaceable by the consumer. It seems that it could benefit the manufacture of the Video cards by doing this, maybe not for the Laptop maker. I think more people would buy from that vendor if they did offer this.

Also why don't more notebook makers use slot loading drives rather than the crappy tray. They cost about the same and have the same size, pwr requirements.

This could be true for 15" and up Laptops. Other then that, it would compromise the size of the ultra portable laptops.

    Sorry I don't buy that.
I have done a swap with a slot on my 14" Compaq.
Also the Panasonic Slot I have here is the same size as the Sony(Mat_shi_ta Drive). Only difference in size is the bezel.
