    Hello:
I bought a new SONY Vaio VGN SZ 140 a little over a year ago. Everything's been great. Today when I tried to turn it on without plugging in, nothing happened. When I plugged it in, it's fine. But the battery is not being detected. The battery icon says that no battery exists for this. Please advise.

    Thanks.

If your computer wont start up without AC power and you know your battery should be charged you most likely have a bad battery.

I got a new sony battery from amazon. It works. So the problem must have been in the original battery, which is not acceptable for 20 months of use. Neither standard nor extended warranty covers fully any battery failure anyway (90 days only if I remember right?)

This is my very first thread on that battery that died 20 months later:

Only 2 months old and, although it says "plugged in charging" and 100% available, as soon as I unplug it the computer shuts off and can not be turned on without the AC adaptor. I suspect something is going wrong with Sony's driver that checks to make sure you have a Sony battery.

The same has just happened to my FE21S this weekend, friday battery was fine, sunday battery not detected.

really anoying thing is, this happened before, after just 6 months old, after much complaining Sony sent me a new battery, now 1 year on, the same thing happened, i'm sure they will not send me another battery. but this is really bad.

Is there anyway to refresh the dead battery?

Well, the battery is dead, so i have attempted to disassemble it, i know this can be dangerous...

Anyway's to my not entire surprise, placing a meter across the cells themselves (6 x approx AA size cells) i am measuring a very good 11.95v.

So that must mean either the circuity has shut the battery down because it has detected some kind of failure, or a component on the circuit itself has actually failed.

Does anyone have any information on the circuitry inside a Sony Li-on battery?

    Thanks

    Hi all,
My second battery for my SZ-140P died just a couple of days ago. Same as everyone else, the battery ceases to function with no warning. Sony had best keep replacing them, as they are very expensive. I wouldn't mind if it gradually stopped holding a charge with too many cycles, but this instant dead thing when the cells are still good is BS. I hope we find some answers.
