This is my SSD, i got it from a Vaio Z.
In my country - Viet Nam, when i asked, all distributor of ssd & supporter of SONY told me that i had no solution of using this storage device for another purpose. It meaned this ssd can be used only for replaced or added to another Vaio. :(
but I still wonder if there is any idea for convert the cable to use as a removable storage device ?

    Forgive my English!
    Thanks and Cheer! :D

What is the connection on it? If it has SATA (the sticker on it says it does), then you can use that on any other PC/laptop which uses SATA. You just won't have a case for it.

Ask the Sony subforum here. Depending on which Vaio Z you are talking about the dual/quad ssd custom job may be a LOT of different kinds of connecter, including forms of PATA

As my knowledge, it's a Quad ssd.
Don't you mind watching again my attackment, the connecting port is at top-middle of device.

Ask only about ssd, i don't think move this topic to Sony Sub-Forum is better.

    Hello panate,

this SSD has a proprietary connector that wires two SATA channels to that 25 pin ZIF connector (2x64GB on one board). This kind of connector was used in the VPC-Z11, compatibility to the ZIF socket used in the VPZ-Z2 is unknown to me. There is a way to connect that drive through SATA/eSATA/USB whatever, but it needs a custom ZIF-to-2x SATA adaptor cable which is not available for purchase so far. That means, one has to homebrew one of these adaptors - soldering skills, ribbon cable, home-etched PCB and SATA connectors required.

The hassle/time to build one and the cost involved do not outweigh the purpose in my opinion. If there were 5+ people that wanted such a thing, maybe it would be worth to build one. I thought of that several times due to the inability to access my files if my Z11 would break down but for the time of the Z11 being on the market (>1.5yrs) there were not so many owners that wanted such a thing (i think). Periodic backups are more comfortable.

I suggest to sell these drives on ebay or here in the marketplace, you certainly will find someone who wants to add this SSD to his Z11 to upgrade from 128GB to 256GB. Then buy a standard aftermarket SATA SSD which is just working plug-and-play. That is the cheapest solution for sure.

Hmm, the part is not even available through Sony Parts? I'd think if you screwed it up Sony would at least sell you the ribbon cable (for a killing though)

Pyro - great to see you surface! Hope all is well.

While we have you, can you explain why Sony only distributed the quad SSD in certain markets, rather than making it standard for all 256GB and 512GB Z1 series SSDs, since it is clearly faster than the dual-SSD architecture and would not appear to entail significantly greater cost? Related to this, if one had a US market Z11 or Z13 (such as I do) what would it take to retrofit one to use a quad SSD array purchased on eBay? Anything beyond normal installation, formatting of a new/replacement RAID0 SSD array in this model?

A second question, perhaps to make the first irrelevant: can you think of any normal uses or applications for which disk read/write speeds greater than that achieved on, say, a typical Z1 25GB dual-disk arrangement would make a material difference in getting things done? In other words, given that the base Z1, SATA II, RAID0 256GB SSDs already perform at 5X-50X (random 4k reads) the speed of a fairly speedy 7200 RPM spinning drive, are there tasks for which going to the kinds of speeds of the Z2 SATA III RAID0 achieves would dramatically improve application performance?

Thanks. Always a treat when you're around. :)

    Dear all you guys!
/pyro: I got all you said.
But still something i wonder if I ask for a connector from an individuals, who can in making its plug-n-play ability ?
    /Achusay.. : May be ^^ I'm on my way.
    Thanks for help!
