I have a Vaio with a damaged hard drive. I need to replace it, but don't know what to replace it with... I've looked online but can't seem to locate the specs of the hard drive. Can anyone help? VGN-TXN15P

    Thanks.

Click on the start icon and go to Computer. Click on "System properties" at the top bar. On the new page, under Tasks at the left, click on "Device Manager." Then click on "Disk drives" and you will find the manufacturer and model of your hard drive. You can click on the name and go further, checking in the "Details" for "Hardware Ids", etc.

Once you know what you have, you can research its entire specs at its manufacturer's site online. I'd also suggest going to Sony's support site to find the spec sheet for your computer model so that you know what types of hardware specs (hard drives, etc.) were tested for performance with your model.

    Good luck!

It's a little tricky to get into Device Manager/Windows when the hard drive is damaged!!!

Duh.... Needless to say, I didn't get a full night's sleep last night!

Okay, go to this site http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/model-documents.pl?mdl=VGNTXN15P&LOC=3 and you will see the Sony spec sheets linked off the page. There you can match your model with the specs there and determine what to get to replace your drive.

Well, we both certainly had a good laugh over that one, eh? ;-)

    Good luck!

Pull the drive out and look at the label on it.
