Does anybody know where I can order a silver SZ series keyboard? I just bought a refurb. SZ370 so I could not customize it. Could anybody with a silver keyboard let me know what the exact part # is? Thanks in advance

They don't have a picture of it...did you get confirmation from Sony that Part #147964722 is actually the silver keyboard?

Why not stay with the back keyboard?

    Silver ones get dirty easily.

I'm tempted to buy a silver keyboard for my SZ. However, the price is a bit of a "killer!" :(

A while back there were reports that the silver SZ keyboard was aluminum...is that true? I'm definitely gonna get one either way....the keys are rubbing off my black one already...it's a shame.

I think (& I may well be very wrong) that the "aluminum" on the silver keyboard is just a thick coat of paint. I'll have to admit it looks good & I'm also aching to get one for my SZ370... However, I'll have to start saving up for it as the price is really a "killer!!!"

I know these pictures can be found on some non-US Sony web site but does anyone in this forum have the SZ Premium (Carbon fiber LCD top lid) with the silver keyboard? If so, do you mind taking some pictures & post them on this thread? I'll really appreciate it if anyone can do it. A big thanks in advance. :)

I talked to them and they are "researching" the correct part number. The lady told me there are over 20 keyboards that are compatible with the SZ, but she wasn't sure which one is the silver US model. I should expect a call back in 24-48 hours....

TEKWRX, I feel your pain. I also came home to a black keyboard yesterday. When I called them to get an RMA the rep was very helpful and I ordered what we think is the right part (# 147967521). This model is USP that she found out was U.S. Platinum, and is more expensive $82.12 which is inline with them charging more for CTO SZs. When I get it on Wednesday, it will hopefully put this dilemma to rest.

There must have been a series of numbers in the sticker behind the keyboard. Part or all of those will most likely have been the part number.... Mind sharing with us those numbers?

That is cool. Finally, someone from our forum is posting some "real life" pictures of the silver keyboard installed on the premium SZs & not some of those "photoshop modified" photos found on Sony's web site that tend to "over-glorified" the silver keyboard.

xelarraf, thanks for taking time & effort to take & post those pictures. :) I appreciate it & it looks like I'll have to start saving up for it right now (a bit broke now :( ).

Do you know if all the sz series use the same size keyboard? I damaged my silver one and I'm trying to replace it, but Sony can't find a part number for my sz340.

I would like to order the part # you found, but I'm not sure it will fit.

    Thanks.

Thanks for your help. I spent over 3 hours on the phone with Sony yesterday - parts, customer service, sales, etc, and nobody could tell me the part number for a silver keyboard. Since I had the part number I got from this site, I asked everyone if the SZ series all used the same size keyboard. You'd have thought I was asking them to explain the meaning of life.

    Thanks again.

I ordered the Silver keyboard from the site linked to earlier in this thread with the part number that xelarraf mentioned. Got it today, and it works great (I spilled some junk on my black keyboard and several keys stopped working).

Though it's probably because my older keyboard had so much wear, but the new one feels nice and solid again. Quite expensive though ($112 with overnight shipping).

Does anyone knows if there is any other place I can order the silver keyboard for the Vaio SZ at a cheaper price than the Sony parts warehouse?

$112 is way too much for just a keyboard!
