Hey guys,
I took my Z21 out of retirement and have been using it for a couple days without issue. I was using it today and everything was good until all of a sudden the laptop turned off. I restarted it and got to the windows login screen and it turns off. I did this exercise a couple times with the same result. To see if it was a windows issue, I booted into the bios setup screen and let it sit, and after about 15 seconds it turned off. It turns on right away every time. I've tried with the battery removed and only connected to ac power with the same result. I'm scratching my head on this one...I thought maybe the cpu's were overheating but I can feel the fans come on when the laptop is on. When it does get to the windows login screen there are no errors on the way there. If I'm quick enough I can type my password in and the desktop starts to load up before shutting down.
Any ideas?
Thanks

You need to test and eliminate things like the memory, hard drive/s etc, you need to pull it apart, check all the connections especially the graphics connector, you should try it with an external screen and replace the thermal grease on the cpu and graphics card unless they are soldered, set the bios to default and try again. If you've never worked on laptops, find out as much about taking them apart as you can, it's easy to cross thread screws and break the plastic connectors if you don't know what your doing.
My advice, don't rush take your time and take photo's with your mobile as you take it apart.Last edited: Mar 4, 2018 -
It is possible your fan is not coming on and needs replacing. unbolt the laptop, turn it on, and see if the fan kicks in. If it doesn't, it needs replacing

Check if hot air comes out of the fan vents. If not, look for the thread explaining how to replace the thermal paste.
