Installing (clean) Vista Ultimate on a new TZ130 and noticed that there is not much softward for Vista on the 130 support page - so things that stick out that are missing:

    Sony Shared Library
    Sony Notebook Utilities
Softward that allows the machine to just play DVD's

    Anyone have any recomendations?

You may want to check your media - I am using a TDK disk and to burn two of them took about an hour. I am now restoring the system back to factory because I can't find the sony software yet - I had Vista Ultimate on it just fine - I just can't find the sony software.

isn't the dvd player feature enabled in bios? Seems if you can play a dvd without booting up the computer that ti wouldn't be a windows utility...

also, that list you provided looks pretty thorough... what was missing that made you go back to recovery dvds? I am about to start my clean install... any words of wisdom?

If by software to play DVDs, you mean like being able to play movie DVDs, all you really need to get is a media player, such as VLC. The DVD Drive should be working at all times however if that's what you meant and should be able to read DVD-Rs and the like without software being installed.

As for the missing utilities, I'm not sure but I really doubt the 130 is so much different. I'm betting Sony forgot to list those drivers for that model. The next closest model to the 130 is the 160, so I would try using the Sony Shared Library and Notebook Utilities from that product page to get them.

    http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu-list.pl?mdl=VGNTZ160NB

Unless the 130 uses different names for the drivers/utils (which doesn't sound likely/logical for them to do)?

Thanks Die and ZK - OK - I called Sony tech support and they told me to do just that - install the utilities from another model. ZK - that list done not really have any of the important stuff - compare it to the list for the TZ150 on the support page and you will see what I mean.

it worries me that some of the "drivers" are so big... i think they are bundling applications that I don't necessarily want with the drivers... eg, why is the bluetooth driver 28 mb?

No clue? How is your install going? I just finished my fresh and am waiting on the 320MB of drivers to download from the sony site.

i was money.. then I ran a bunch of windows updates and now i keep getting an error message:

"The installed battery may not be properly connected to the computer or may not be compatible with the computer. Click OK to enter hibernate mode, and remove and reinsert the battery."

Didn't see this once before installing windows updates... GREAAAAT

also have one more unidentified unknown device and for some reason the dvd buttons on the front of the computer are screwy

Hmm, that's strange. The ISBUtility gets installed along with the Notebook Utilities if I am not mistaken (either that or the Sony Shared Library). It should go away after you completely install all the Windows Updates. But it's one more process you can completely do without (yes it's a process that runs behind your computer EVEN if you don't get that error).

If you stop the process (ISB Utility) from running in Task Manager, it won't bother you for the time being. (I know how annoying it is as I've had to deal it so many times in my 10+ times of reinstalling.) If you want to permanetnly stop it from starting ever again, do this:
    1. Click Start
    2. Type msconfig in the search box to be taken to the System Configuration
    3. Click on Startup and uncheck ISB Utility.
    4. Click Apply and OK.

If you want to go one step further, you can delete the registry itself to prevent it even appearing on the list (check the Location tab to see where it's located), though I have not done this before and not sure if it adversely affects other things.

Question - I did a clean install of Vista Ultimate and installed all of the software from the TZ150 and all hardware works, however I am having issues getting to the sony support links - have any of you done a clean install and gotten those working?

What is the best price on a 64GB SSD now? I can tell you this I ordered a Dell D430 to compare with this and it had a 64GB SSD and to be honest it was not that much faster, of course some things were - but I am not sure it is worth the money.

I think the dell uses a sandisk drive which has crap specs... I just picked up a 2gb sandisk extreme III ms pro duo card and am using it as a ready boost drive. I think i'll live with the rotational drive until the new gen tz comes out... they really need sata connectors for the new gen mtron drives I think.

the tz uses samsung, which are not great either but better than sandisk

The Dell actually has a Samsung 64GB SSD - but I have to tell you it does not seem that fast - quick booting etc - but not much else.

I am with you - I will live with slow drive in the TZ - this screen is unbelievable!
