    Hello,

I got a new Vaio S15 just some days ago and now I can't do anything with it since I've messed up the partition table :(

The laptop came with Windows 8 preinstalled (UEFI mode) and a 35 GB recovery partition, among others.

I downloaded Easus Partition Master and shrank the Windows 8 NTFS partition just to be able to install Linux and dual-boot it with Windows 8.

After resizing the partitions the system rebooted and now I can't boot Windows 8 anymore, I keep getting a blue screen asking me to configure the language setup for the keyboard and then when I click on "Continue to Windows 8" It takes me back to the keyboard language setup screen again.

If I go "Solve problems" and click on "Restore your PC" it seems it doesn't find the recovery files and It just asks me to insert Windows 8 media for beginning the recovery.

Clicking on "Recovery and maintenance" offers no help either, the message "VAIO care (rescue mode) is only available for media created with VAIO Care" pops out.

I know for sure I didn't delete the recovery partition but I seems It can't find it.

Any help for getting out of this trouble? :/

The same thing happened to me today. I just bought a new S15 and wanted to shrink the C: partition because I don't want all my files on the same partition. I used Easeus Partition Master and shrank C: to 100 GB. It rebooted, Easeus performed its tasks and it rebooted again. But instead of booting into Windows I always get stuck in recovery mode: first I have to select a keyboard layout and then I get some recovery options.
At first it didn't even recognize my recovery discs I had created earlier, but after trying it several times, it now seems to be able to recover the data. The recovery process is now at 20% and while it's doing its work, I'm wondering what caused this issue? How can I reduce the size of my partition without breaking everything?

anytimer, I can't get Ubuntu 12.10 DVD booting in UEFI mode, the laptop only recognises it in Legacy mode, which is a shame since I'd have to enter the BIOS and change between UEFI and Legacy all the time for booting either Windows or Ubuntu.

I've found Fedora 18 has no trouble booting from UEFI, so I'll probably install that distro.

But unfortunately I'm still stuck with the recovery problem.

You guys may try turn your laptop off. And then push ASSIST button to launch recovery mode.
With legacy mode from older laptops, recovery partition was partition 0, but with UEFI, it is now the last one in partition table.

Ah! I'm guessing shrinking the C partition either nuked the recovery partition, or renamed/renumbered it so VAIO assist cannot find it. Does anyone know how to manually edit the UEFI equivalent of the MBR?

    Hi,
would urgently need to know how you resolved the issue - I am in the same boat.
Got my Duo13 and shrinked C: - same situation as yours. Stuck in recovery option - no way to change partition...

Access to gparted is possible via CLI, but would really like to avoid to make it more worse....

    Recovery Partition is currently
    Partition 6 / OEM / 25 GB
    Volume 4 / Recovery / NTFS / Partition / 25 GB / no error / hidden

What did you guys do, to repair?
Currently I ordered recovery CD/stick, but maybe there is an easy trick?
