    Greeting All.

    First, i would to thank all the members here for this nice community.

    i have a question i hope to help me,
    I was about to Order FW490 from sonyStyle but while i'm searching about it i found this forum and the upcoming FW590

    this is my customization.:
    Code:
        * 16.4" widescreen with XBRITE-FullHD™ LCD technology (1920x1080)
        * 250GB SATA Hard Disk Drive [5400 rpm] *will be replaced by Vertex SSD which already have.
        * Large Capacity Battery
        * WLAN (802.11a/b/g/n) with integrated Bluetooth® technology
        * ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD4650 graphics card with 1GB vRAM-great for games and movies
        * Engraving
        * Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor P8700 (2.53GHz)
        * CD/DVD playback/burning
        * Chocolate Brown
        * Microsoft® Windows Vista® Home Premium 64-bit
        * 4GB DDR2-SDRAM (DDR2-800, 2GBx2)
    and this will cost me $1,139.62

    now as i read here maybe at 10/20 or 10/27, SonyStyle will but FW590 online!, but don't know will be for Ready or just "Coming Soon"?

    Do you think FW590 deserve the waiting and i should cancel the idea of buying this?
    I hope the FW590 is same price and the FW490, and also i get tired of thinking about the LCD in the FW590 will be LED or not which is like FW490??

    thanks.

    @ Qaenos - Are you still waiting too?

    I hope the FW590 comes with Core i7, otherwise I might get the Studio XPS 16...

    Ya I'm still waiting. My issue is the screen quality. If they upgrade the screen to something similar to what the Macbook Pro offers (i.e. bright and glossy) then I'm getting it. I loved the FW490, however, as an owner of a Vaio AR590 in the past with a HiColor screen, I just wasn't impressed with the "FullHD" screen on the FW490.

    To be honest, the i7 is a trade-off. THe performance is better, sure, but not THAT much better, particularly in single threaded applications. However, it does create almost twice the heat as the current processors, which means hotter laptops, louder fans and very poor battery life. So if the Sony has i7, fine, but if not, fine too.

    If Sony does not upgrade the screen, then I'll feel pissed about waiting these few months. In that case, I may just buy a Clevo W860CU (aka Sager NP 8690) or a Clevo W870CU (aka Sager 8760). Those computers are LOADED. 1080p screen, the fastest GPU on the market (nVidia GTX 280M AND user upgradeable), core i7, Blu-Ray, etc. A little clunky, bad battery life, gets hot and not as sexy as the FW, but way more powerful and user upgradeable.

    I just don't like the look and feel of the Dell Studio XPS, otherwise I probably would have bought that in the summer instead of the FW. It's also hotter, but I heard that it's mostly due to the LED screen as opposed to anything else.

    Dude, the chances of Sony putting i7 CPUs into their current lineup are slim to none. They're too much drain on the battery and the FW already has bad battery life so if you don't like the way the FW is now, might as well go with that Dell now.

    Plus, i7 CPUs are quad-core, Sony doesn't even have any laptops with quad core CPUs in them, so no it's not going to happen any time soon.

    If anything, Sony will put i5 CPUs in their laptops but that won't be for a while (earliest next year).

    any news on the fixes on the flimsy power 'barrel' where the cable from the adaptor runs into the notebook?

    there have been many incidences of its breakage.

    I'm going to return my FW490CTO due to a minor issue and because the refresh is near. If we only knew when the refresh would be, it would help me a lot. I will be getting another FW... .
