My brand new Z 890 series came directly from Sonystyle with Win 7 Ultimate installed and lots of additional 'junk' software that I don't want. This is not the fresh start veresion. Since the recovery discs that I made does not allow for a clean install, I figure I'll just have to UNINSTALL as much stuff that I don't need as possible.

Is there a post or guide somewhere as to all the stuff that I can safely uninstall using Windows Uninstall program? (It does have Bluray so I need to keep whatever is necessary for that.)

I want to take out all the demo software such as Office 2007 trial, Norton trial etc but thought I'd ask if there are more that I can uninstall safely.

    Thanks,
    UL

I simply uninstalled, via Control panel, all unnecessary (to me) : office trial, Norton for sure, and I don't remember what else.
Of course I mantained all Vaio software stuff (Media management and so), but I stopped automatically launch on start. I am ready to launch those programs if needed (never had the need till today).

Just wondering if your machine came with the SONICSTAGE MASTERING STUDIO AUDIO FILTER?

I've been searching for a while and managed to find an installer on Sony's ftp site. The problem now is that it has no audio plug-ins / effects... Is anyone able to upload the Program Files\Sonicstage Mastering Studio folder onto somewhere...? I know this may cause some people to go 'no-warez' and the likes...

But I have the VAIO Z26, found a genuine installer from the ftp (that itself is slightly in the grey-zone as it is, but hey, it's open to the public), and the folder that I'm requesting is about 40MB in size (smaller if compressed).

    ...Thanks in advance...

I did uninstall what I deemed to be safe to uninstall (i.e. MS 2007 Office, Norton, odds and ends software.) It caused me significant problems after the uninstalls. My Word 2000 would not close without crashing. I would get forced shut downs instead of normal shutdowns etc. So somewhere along the line, something I uninstsalled caused problems.

I did check very carefully each item I uninstalled to make sure it is not essential.

Now I have to do a complete recovery and try it again. Sigh!

Very sorry to hear what happened to you.

May be it depends from unistalling something "vital", not Office and Norton for sure.

Instead of uninstall I decided to leave all other Sw but I stopped automatically launch on start.

So you are (were) running office 2000 and uninstalled Office 2007?

Yes, uninstalled 2007 first. Then installed 2000.

    Golly.

Office 2000 is 10/11 years old and was de-supported by Microsoft last year.
