Guys..i really need some help. I have no idea what to do. So i bought a crucial m4 128gb ssd to replace the 500hhd on the sony vaio t13 ultrabook. I opened it up and put the ssd in already. It kinda sucks because it doesnt even fit perfectly into the hard drive caddy, so i had to put it in without the caddy. Anyways, I really dont know what to do after this step. I dont have a windows 7 cd or anything, can anyone tell me how to install windows 7 please??

First of all, stop spamming and bumping the thread every 15 minutes or so, it'll probably only get your threads deleted for spamming.

Second, to boot from the SSD you probably need to go into BIOS and change EFI boot to Legacy boot. I'm not sure about that model, but in the T13 thread you'll probably get some info.

Lastly, how do you expect to install W7 without a DVD \ pen drive at least? Get a 4GB (or more) pen, download Windows 7 ISO from the internet and use this to put it in the pendrive so you'll be able to boot and install from it. If you don't have a pen drive burn the ISO to a DVD.

You may also be able to copy the recovery partition from the HDD to the SSD and use it to install Windows from there, there should be instructions for that somewhere in the forums (use search tool).

Sorry I was just panicing =/.

But yeah, I dowloaded the windows 7 iso and burned it to my 16gb usb stick becus i dont have a serperate usb cd/dvd drive to burn disks..I already put the ssd into my laptop, and i also put the usb in. But when i turn it on all it says is no operating system found.

Edit: There is nothing about this in the vaio t forum. The bios is very limitied, it doesnt say anything about EFI or Legacy boots. I'm so lost..

You have to set it to boot from the USB and not from the SSD. There should be an option for that in the BIOS.

Alternatively spam F10 \ F12 or whatever F key makes it go to boot device selection when you turn it on and select the USB device from there.

Yes, there was an option for enabling it to boot from external devices, I enabled that. And there was an option for booting pirority and i changed it to external devices as #1 priority. It still did not work. Instead of saying "no operating system found", it now says "error loading operating system." =/

Edit: wow...just noticed after hours and hours that I downloaded windows pro instead of windows premium...Gosh, I hope this works now. I'll see if it works, sorry for so much trouble.

Did you use that Microsoft's tool to copy the ISO to the USB drive, including the formatting? You can also use Rufus \ WinToBootic, but for a normal W7 ISO the MS tool should work just fine.

I'm not sure if "external devices" is the right option, did you have the USB drive plugged in? The BIOS should detect it if so.

I downloaded the iso off of here: Windows 7 Direct Download Links

"jamerican" ( forum user) instructed to do so. I used "netbootin" to get the iso to the usb drive.

The only options listed under boot in the bios is: internal, external, and network. The sony vaio t13 bios is veryvery limited.

The original windows on my laptop when i purchased it was windows preimum 64bit, but i downloaded windows professional on accident. So this may have been the problem. I'm downloading premium as we speak

edit: zzz error in download after 60% T.T

Just use the Microsoft's tool, those netbootin, pendrivelinux, etc programs sometimes jack it up. WinToBootic and Rufus are also pretty safe \ solid, just make sure the program formats the USB drive.

Also try to use F10 or F12 to go into boot device selection when you turn it on (might even be F1 or F2, it depends on the computer really) to see if it recognizes your USB drive.

Well im using netbootin atm, if it doesnt work i'll try your way. It uses f2 to get into the bios, but I've told you what's in there already. wish me luck

edit: can you give me a link to the mircosoft tool, kina busy atm with this. thanks

Use the edit button instead of spamming please.

    Microsoft Store Online

Also the F key I told you about isn't to get into the BIOS, but to get into the boot selection device menu, it usually is F12 but it may be another key with that laptop.

The USB drive is formatted NTFS by the MS tool, but FAT32 mght work as well. Also the fact you got problems with WinToBootic is strange, never had an hiccup with that even with customized ISOs.

As with options, just use the ones you see in the Rufus webpage, that should work well.
