Description: shutdown or standby command goes into "Windows shutting down" and hangs there, no indication that HDD does anything, have to use hardware button to switch off.
Probably no Sony or Microsoft fault but my own idiocy. Installed XP pro on SZ38, running amazing as compared to Vista but.... instead of leaving it there I still tried to make it better and the result it described above. Before it happened I wanted to run Vaio Update, just to be sure have everything latest- it worked perfectly with my German SZ 1. Unfortunately with the SZ 38 and Asian site something is screwed up. Asked to update from ver.2 to 3 but then again to ver.4. The ver. 3 refused to uninstall- very weird message as I never seen before (to close all applications and some more weird stuff) . Removed it with CC cleaner, deleting the folder etc , installed ver.4 which would take me to error page, so all that for nothing and at the end computer got into this "shutting down" forever modus.
having said that it might be something else as well, internet search about possible explanations didnt bring me any results.
System restore was off..., yes, sh..... I remember that on my Thinkpad IBM restore options I could repair WIndows but I dont see such option with Vaio recovery. I do not have Englsih XP Pro Windows CD (have German pro and English home only) only the Vaio Restore and the restore partitions.
The reason I dont want to simply go back and restore is that I already activated some software and it is complicated with some companies (user is always guilty until proved innocent, like if I really wanted to install on zillion computers same software) and I want to avoid that.
Any tips suggestions, will be appreciated, it could be that whole thing is related to something else than the Vaio update versions disaster
