Its going to be 2 yrs since i bought my vaio sr( VGN- SR13GN) and from past few months, i have started facing plethora of problems. Now i dont have warranty as in India warranty expires in one year, and you to buy additional warranty within one year of purchase which i sadly missed
    1) My screen : I am attaching some pics. Right part of the screen has dark vertical lines. Left part also has some vertical lines but these are isolated and not much of problem to visibility.
Question : WaT may be d reason for my screen to go bonkers. LCD wire? Motherboard( P8400)? Graphics card( have a dedicated 256 MB ram ATI HD3450), or LCD screen itself? Cause the local repair shops at (Nehru place, delhi) are giving all sort of vague answers.

To top it all i have speakers which dont function( hardware problem), erratic wifi port which keeps switching on and off) , left mouse pad doesn't work, oh yeah battery backup too.

Do reply wat you guys think might be the problem with my screen and possible cheap solution.Even if you want more information about my screen. Hoping for a reply soon.

One of cheap solution you may try is by restoring back the notebook to factory installed. I see you use Windows 7 which by default the SR13 use Windows Vista.
Another thing you can do, update the graphic drivers or re-installed the driver, but please do the above Ive said first and monitor if the problem still occurred.

Hi thanks for reply but i am pretty sure that the screen issue is a hardware problem.
Already followed ur steps much b4 with no positive results.
    1) i have reinstalled windows vista, 7 but got the same error.
    2) yeah downloaded the latest catalyst drivers too.
    3) The very fact that the screen issue has worsened during the past few weeks indicates it is a hardware problem.

Ok so i went to the repair centre today, and they diagnosed it as problem with led(i guess) screen, which means it has to be replaced. Now the problem is that the cost of screen they are quoting is ~430 US $( Sony people) which is roughly 30%of cost of laptop when i purchased it two years ago. Considering i am a student, this is expensive for me.
So i was thinking if i could directly order the screen from its chinese supplier and thus save middleman commision.
Any guidance/other options would mean a lot.

you could try connecting an external monitor to the vga or hdmi out on the laptop. If it displays fine I would think its a problem with the lcd.

what about buying parts from ebay?

Checked with an external monitor. The display was fine. So the problem is the led screen.
After searching for the screen online it seems that the cost of screen hovers around 500$ which is expensive.
Anyone knowing cheaper options or a cheaper supplier?
    My lcd part number is
    LTD133EWZX.
I was searching online and got some chinese suppliers selling at lower price. I was wondering if anyone knows how reliable they are. Anyone with a past experience of buying from china
