    Hey

Just got back from the Sonystyle store, and the guys there had no idea what a "hicolor" screen was and basically just dismissed the spec and said it was the ATI card

Anyway, I'm having a hard time finding an actual comparison between the 2 models; if it's worth the upgrade, and are there upsides to both panels or is one definitely superior in every way.

Can someone point me in the right direction or shed some insight? :) thanks

wow where was this? lol you should go back with a hidden camera and ask the same question again, stick it on you tube and send the link to sony, show them how stupid their employees are.

A sales guy in a SonyStyle store told me there's "practically no difference" between an Eco and HiColor screen.

    He was wrong.

If you have the funds, get the HiColor. You'll be very happy you did. :)

If you watch movies more, play with pictures, get the hi-color, otherwise eco should be just fine. Hi-color screen has better contrast and color saturation.

the part that pissed me off was that I called in advance and the guy said no problem, they had a hi-color in stock for me to come down and check out  what a waste of time

If the sales guy doesnt know that, I wonder what he does know. If you have the extra cash, The Hi-Color screen is sure worth it. I tried on the eco screen in a bestbuy store. I logged onto my flickr account and looked at some pics. When I got home, my fw had arrived from sony with the hi-color screen. As soon as saw the wallpaper. Wow! Extremely vivid. deep blacks, bright whites. Its worth it! I give the fw 9.9 out of 10

not surprised the fools at the sony store here in coquiltam, BC were the same, I came in a few weeks back when the FW's were meant to be in stock and I called and asked, they said, ya its here. I enter the store, look at the wall with laptops, and see nothing, only olds FZs. So I asked and the dude points to a box on the floor unopened still taped up, so he goes about opening it it infront of me, then looks for the plug for power, can't find it, so I had to show him where to stick it lol.

Then he looks for the power button on the device, fails, show him, it turns on. Next, he tries to get the net working, gets it to work, but hits the powercord and the laptop turns off. It turns back on and begins telling me stuff I already know, I ignore him while looking for info on it, windows score, etc; after finding the score, I go about looking for more info and mention I will be ordering it soon via the CTO, which wasn't even on the website at all for the next 2-3 weeks. He then tells me, order it here, you'll get it faster, on the count that its a sony store and they get stuff faster.

But funny enough 2 people here claimed you can't do CTO at a sony store, and I asked over the phone and the person said the same, regardless, I will probably order using the site, but will make a call to see if they can lower the price.

if I'm not mistaken, the Hi-Color version also has 2 CCFL backlights for a brighter screen.

I bought an FW from Best Buy with the Eco screen and returned it because I heard how much better the HiColor is. My shiny new FW with HiColor from SonStyle is going to arrive tomorrow and I'll post my thoughts on it then.

i tried ordering off the phone earlier tonight (via the US site/hotline, cheaper) and asked them if they could match the Newegg price of $ 1149 (or $1199) and they said flat out no, the best they could do for me was $1259 for that exact same config.

...soooo I bought it off newegg and should expect it soon :D

If you already bought the FW with xbrite.... can you still upgrade it to hi-color? Also can you upgrade to the ATI graphics card also?
