I returned my first SZ160 and bought another. The same problem occured upon going into hibernation/standby. The machine will freeze or after a quick blue screen, reboot. I know of one other SZ owner who has also had this occur.

I called Sony tech and they thought is might be cause by a bluetooth device. But on the second machine I installed NO bluetooh items.

Have any others out there has this problem? Any fizes? Any suggestions. Any thoughts about what may be causing this problem.

I have not used "standby", only "hibernation", and I have not had any problems resuming from Hibernation.

Have you installed anything yet? Maybe try going back over that. Can you restore the OEM HD image? Sounds frustrating. I have installed several things, including a couple BT devices, and games. Something in the power save configuration? Can you restore power save settings to defaults?

SZ160 owner here with no problem. Do not use Standby but use Hibernation. Been using this mode this last Tuesday. So far so good.

I have not had that problem with my 110 but have had it with both my Emachines 5312 and my HP dv7000. I assumed that it was a windows issue after having it happen on both systems.

Lots of info out there about this. It's not endemic to the SZ. I've had the problems on multiple laptops. Did you switch display drivers? Or any other drivers?

Google blue screen after hibernation and do some research based on your particular situation.

Also, if you post more details about what you've done with and to your laptop, I might be able to find some other ideas :)

I suspect my hangup is due to a driver problem - the window box appears as says something along the lines of "you have suffered a serious error..." When I hit the
"details" button it mentions "unknown drivers".

I have not altered the original settings except to remove Micrsoft Office, AOL the spyware program, Jeapordy, and a few other minor things.

I then install: aol, security version 9.0, from a disc, Mircosoft office -student edition - from a disc, Adobe photoshop 2, a screenwriting progam (Movie Magic 2000), and a english to German translating program. I also install a bluetooth mouse and a bluetooth printer - that's it!

Driver may still be the main course of your problem.

Anyway, try the following to see whether it helps:
Goto "Start" menu and select "VAIO Central". Under the Security folder, select "Hard Disk Drive Protection Settings" and uncheck the "Activate hard disk drive protection".

I have the HDD protection off for about a week and don't have any problem after waking up from hibernation since then.

How would changing the Hard Drive protection affect the (possibly conflicting) driver? Thanks...
