Hi, I ordered a 290 SR laptop with 120gb of storage. I only have a few programs other than stock VAIO equiped programs But my question is is there like a hidden partition or drive that storing a lot of data? I have almost nothing on the laptop except Vista but I had already incurred more than 40 GB of drives. It says I have 102GB and only 63GB space left. Does anyone know the problem and how to delete this thing to free up the drive? Thanks.

Yep - that's the recovery partition, so that you can restore your OS/drivers/software without a recovery disk. Unless your HD dies, of course.
All VAIOs have this now. -
There is a hidden partition, but it shouldn't take up more than 8GB. Also, 120GB often isn't really 120GB. For example, my 1TB hard drive actually sees about 963GB of data. Not sure if all that should add up to 40GB gone though. That seems excessive. Try uninstalling some larger programs to see if that frees space.

do i need this recovery partition? Because I burned 3 restore discs already. Also, how do i delete this recovery partition if I don't need it, where can it be found? Thanks.

well according to this site, your 120gb drive would actually be about 111.5gb. I just checked the size of my hidden partiton (using GParted) and its 10.37gb, 9.61 used.
so the 120gb drive:
111.5 actual
- 10.4 hidden recovery
= 101.1gb
that seems to correspond to the 102gb your laptop is reporting.
I removed some of the bloatware and only installed a couple programs (firefox, 7zip, avira, foxit) and my c: drive has a little over 45gb used.
Hopefully that helps explain it a little.
Im sure it possible to remove the hidden partition somehow, but you'd only be gaining 10gb. -
It could be the windows vista restore data, i had the same problem, and resolved it by doing an hard disk cleaning with the tool present in the start menĂ¹. I deleted all the restore points, except the last one, obtaining 20GB or more free space.
Hidden Data Storage on the SR?
