Below is a detailed description, but since no one has responded in over 100 views, let me simplify it:

I cracked part of the lid on my Z22 which I was planning to sell, and it will cost a fortune to replace the parts. It works perfectly and is loaded with great components (see sig), including the FHD screen, 256GB SSD, 8GB proprietary RAM. Should I:

    1) Tape it up and use it? (I'm probably too OCD to do that!)
    2) Pay $400 for parts to make "like new?"
    3) Part it out or sell as-is?

    Thanks.

My tale of woe: my beloved mid-high spec Z22 (see sig) took a surprisingly light hit on the left side of the corner of the lid/bezel. Made a few cracks in the lid and one hairline crack in the bezel. Works 100% perfect, all benchmarks great, no way to tell there was an "incident" if not for the tape I applied for protection.

I'm a fanatic about my rigs; they have to be perfect, unless they are "back up" supply, which I hate to relegate this to.

So, with a 256GB SSD, 8GB RAM, Core i7-2640, perfect 1080p screen, internal + sheet battery, both at 100%, and all other internals in mint condition, what would be the best way to get the most cash out of this? To replace the lid and bezel would cost over $300 and I'd be left with a computer worth around $900 (has no PMD) and so would net only $600, so that's not very appealing. If I price the SSD, screen, batteries, RAM at replacement (new) cost it's well over $1,000. I don't want to stick someone, just give a good deal to someone who needs the prime components and not get slaughtered myself. One last thing: it's damage is purely superficial, totally protected with tape or a custom skin. It could be a daily driver for someone not as OCD as I am!

    Thanks for advice!

As i understand there are just cracks on the screen and nothing serious then...

IMO only first option is good because people get used to everything.

*We have a guy in our class whose dell laptop screen only half is working. He still gets things done.

I even got used to carrying 4kg laptop between classes everyday.

Option 2 is if it bothers you that much, not even letting sleep cause of the worry it gives.

Option 3 May be ideal if you manage to find buyer willing to pay almost full price (original price -200$) with the cracked screen.

Thanks for the feedback. In fact, not even the screen is cracked, just the lid on the other side of the screen and a small hairline on the bezel.

It's just that I was looking forward to replacing with an IvB or even Haswell, probably with a touch screen for W8. The longer I keep it, the closer its resale value goes to zero.

I guess maybe I put it up for sale and see what kind of bites I get, then decide.
