Just recently I noticed a high pitched "humming" noise from the lower left vent area. It kinda sounds like a high pitched frequency sound that is extremely intermittent. There is no pattern to this sound whatsoever. It comes and goes. Could it be the hard drive? I only notice this problem when it is plugged in with an AC adapter. When it's running solely on battery, the noise is gone.

Wow. That is strange, I know the left side I felt a lot of hot air coming out of (due to fan) but no high pitched noise..
I would advise to call Sony and set up a repair eval -
anyone else have this problem?

I had similar problem when I got my first Z590 from Sony. At the beginning, I thought I was crazy and then I found out this noise really existed.
Keep your Z on and plugged in AC, then open and close the lid. The noise sort of disappear when the lid was closed.
I returned it after 1 week. -
Just thinking - the HDD that had a mechanical failure on my old Medion made a high pitched noise...
-
This is probably from the processor. I returned my previous FZ due to that noise.

i hear it too but its so random i cant figure it out. happened about 3-4 times. I have a 2 year warranty so i think ill deal with it for now. I don't feel like restoring then taking my machine in to sony and waiting, though its only a month old.
