so after hours spend trying to instal a new windows on it, it finally worked ! :) So I decided to instal Everest too on it just to feed my curiosity... and fed up I got: The CPU runs at ~ 73 celsius when running NOTHING just everest and it has an Intel Atom with 1.83 GHZ and it's not even 1 month old. I'm not used to Netbooks so I'm asking you is this really normal ?

I have the W series netbook (version before the M). The N450 Atom (1.66) I have idles around teh mid 30's and with a load will go up to the 50's.
73 for idle seems a bit high - it the machine hot to the touch?
Try downloading and checking with Cupid Hardware Monitor.

Yes quite frankly it's pretty hot and the cooler tends to run at high speed as well, everest also indicated around 5-15% CPU usage at that time and all this I observed l ~1 hour after I had installed a fresh copy of W7 32 ultimate on it.
    Will try tomorrow again.

A friend of mine pointed out that the old intels (on PCs not LAPs) would run at very high temps and still be stable, does the Atom use a similar architecture ?

Well based on this I'm running a mini-stress test on the netbook - (I've installed a Kingston SSD).
Running fulls scans of MBAM and MSE simultaneously - temps at 64. That's about the hottest I've seen it.
My model does have the larger battery so the back end is propped for airflow (event tho on a netbook not sure that helps).
Since you have a higher clock speed - maybe a small cooler would help.

Ok you were right (I'm hoping) I did use CPUID hardware monitor (that's what I got when searching CUPID) and it gives me a way lower value (~52-55 in idle) and now I'm running a stress test on the CPU to see the max temp which is 75 , after 5 mins stay at that temp(funny it's the same tempt Everest shows now as well)

However, I am using the same everest on my other lap an Asus G50Vt-X1 and the temperatures all coincide (of course there are much more sensors as well)

The chips do run warmer, plus there is really minimal if any cooling on them (netbooks). Just keep watching as do various things with the netbook.
Had mine for about 6 months now - great travel companion for work actions (versus lugging around my desktop replacement).

Yea so it is, it belongs to my sis tho and I want to make it failproof so to say :) Is a 2gb upgrade worth the effort ? 50% of mem is being used in idle already without anything running

Upgraded mine to 2GB - it did help the responsiveness. But do keep in mind the bottleneck will be the Atom chipset.
These netbooks are nice for portability, they do have some limitations.

Reminds me of my Asus EEE 1005HA. It runs HOT. The netbook category is supposed to be low cost, high profit margin, so cooling systems aren't something that's given much thought.

And yea, 2GB would be worth it in my opinion. You would be able to juggle a few open programs more easily (and without pulling out your hair).
