I ended up getting my Z591 from P1 who installed a Hitachi 7k321 7,200rpm 320GB hard drive in the machine. I had previously read in this forum that this particular model may not fit in the Z but P1 was able to do it. Just wanted to pass this info on to others who might be interested in doing this.

Hi Mate, Cheers for posting this - m interested what the Vista score reads the HD as - my 320gb 5400rpm drive is rated at 5.6. I know that the SSD raid is 5.9.

I would suggest to ignore WEI scores. They really don't say much. The SSD RAID blows away the 320GB 5400 drive and the WEI score does not do it any justice.

    Excellent HD Tune score.
How are the noise and vibration? How does it compare to the stock drive? Can you hear it when it's idle and your fan is off?

This is my second seagate 7200, I used to have the 7200.2 200GB on my previous Laptop I chose this one based on my past experience.
    my observations regarding this one:

it's quieter than the Hitachi 5400 that came with my Z, l could hear it idle when it was naked lying on my desk, but inside the laptop it was silent, no whine, buzz or any weird sounds either.
the area where the 7200.3 really shines over the Hitachi is seek noise! much more muffled Tone and quieter
as for the vibrations I honestly don't recall how was the Hitachi but the 7200.3 doesn't have any more Vibrations than any 2.5 inch hd i tried ( i've tried at least a dozen!) it has a very light but even hum that you can feel near the touch pad
Also 2 areas that i was worried about when switching to a 7200 hdd was temps and power draw! the seagate seems to do well in both as i didn't notice any change in my battery life and my Temps are: 35-36 idle and 37-39 load after 30 minutes of data transfer

And last My model Is "ST9320421ASG" with free fall sensor

    @ dart22

    - What 5400rpm drive did come with your Z?
    - Would you say the 7k320 is also very silent when it comes to fan noise it produces. In other words, can you recall there's a difference with fan noise your Z produced before you made the HD swap? (Maybe the fan noise even got worse?)

    My Z came with a Hitachi 250GB 5400 !
    I can't comment on what a 7K320 sounds because i don't have one! Mine is a Seagate 7200.3 320GB
My fan is silent beacause I have my vaio setup In a Low Noise/power mode and since the seagate Ideles @ low temps I guess that means its not making things warmer inside the Z

Can anyone comment on noise, heat and/or vibration from the Hitachi 7K320? I was thinking of doing the same deal with P1.
