I chose Hi-Color display for my custom-ordered FW. I've heard that it's an S-IPS panel.
Although the FW Hi-Color screen is good for a notebook, it is not even close to my two desktop S-IPS monitors in terms of clarity, color & viewing angle.
[I use a SONY P234B 23" LCD (S-IPS) driven by ATI HD4850 and an NEC FXi 19" LCD (S-IPS) driven by ATI HD3870.]
My biggest complaint is washed-out colors on my FW and "green" seems too strong. My SZ display (I believe it's TN) has much more vibrant colors.
I'm wondering if SONY put an ECO panel by mistake. So, how do I know that I did get the Hi-Color?

I have a Xbrite HiColor and no way that it is an IPS screen. I dont think any notebook manufacturers are using IPS type LCDs anymore.
-
Then, is it a PVA screen?
Why not use IPS panels? Sure, they are expensive but I've yet to see a panel better than the S-IPS. -
IPS panels are too expensive for manufacturers and most consumers only care about cost. Even finding IPS panels on the larger LCD monitors are hard to find and the ones they do have are expensive. IBM notebooks with the Flexview were some the the last IPS panels sold on notebook computers.

With ECO it's comfortable. -
Then, it must be Hi-Color because I lowered brightness all the way down to comfortably look at the screen.

Wish there was more of an obejective way to tell because with my ppor vision not really absolutely sure about whether mine is HiColor as I ordered or the ECCO screen. Should not some type of device ID tell us for sure and thanks.

I received a new office PC and it came with a Dell Ultra Sharp 24" LCD (PVA). It looks super similar to the screen of my FW in terms of clarity and colors, so I assume that the Hi-Color screen uses a PVA panel.
