I'm trying to figure out if I should have my Sony Z checked out. My laptop GPU runs up to 222 degrees F! And that's after cleaning the fan / filter.

    I've got a Vaio Z (9300GM).

Being into heavy-duty video editing (ie, re-encoding full HD into other formats, for LEGAL purposes mind you), the 9300GM is pretty nice for something as portable as the Z, and the newer Z should be better, but I'll wait and see how it handles heat and whether it downclocks like the T9900s...

Anyways, I was doing 3DCAD for about an hour straight (full-on live rendering and re-rendering) and the Z peaked at 92*C (when Z was 4 months old).

Another note, about 3 hours of video encoding and CPU-Z tells me the GPU is 97 degrees celsius, 3 off boiling point. That is the highest I've seen my Z go. And this is when it was about 6 months old. Have to check it again, but wouldn't expect alot of difference... I've yet to dismantle and clean out dust.

What does heat up is my AC Brick and the rear, lower part of the LCD panel though.

It idles near 50ºC, and when I'm gaming it goes to 90-ish (playing WC3 and L4D). When I connect my 24' display on the HDMI port, it idles near 60ºC, but I understand it since I'm running 1920x1200 + 1367x768 resolutions.

The laptop gets real hot in its keyboard base, but the keys themselves are just warm, so I could use the keyboard with no problems. But I lost a few chocolate bars when I left them in the left side of my Z.
