I need to replace a memory chip in the T140 and I have removed the screws on the bottom side of the computer as indicated by the arrows imprinted onto the case bottom.
The case will start to open along part of the seam, but is stuck tightly closed in some areas. I don't want to pry it apart.
What is the secret to opening up the case to replace the memory chip?

Try to remove the keyboard & you will see one more or few screws holding the upper frame. Unscrew them & disconnect all the pins & connections.
Also you can try to download service manual & to check how really to dispart it. Here's the manual http://home.comcast.net/~nw_systems/vgnT.pdf -
Thank you. I think that's what I was looking for. My other Viao keyboards released from the bottom edge. . .I didn't look along the top edge but will try that today.
Thanks again. -
How much RAM do you have installed?

(sorry for the delay - been out on family emergency)
RAM? What RAM?
According to the manual, this model doesn't have any removable RAM.
The T140 has a slot for adding ram, but there seems to be no facility for replacing existing ram!
I was able to remove the keyboard and the interior looks the same as the manual photos. No removable RAM.
It looks like this little puppy is going to a repair shop.
It will boot and run for a short while, but within seconds or minutes it will flash a blue screen (too fast to read) and then reboot.
Perhaps I should make a new post asking if this symptom is worth repairing?
The computer was still a good function machine - my feeling is that it is worth repair if repair is reasonable. -
Last Look:
It turns out that the blue screen re-boot problem was because of a faulty graphics card driver!
After disassembling and inspecting the interior and re-assembling the computer I tried booting it again. All went well.
And, as happened multiple times in the past, the system wanted to send Microsoft an Error Report. It did and it responded that the fault was caused by a bad driver for the video card.
I don't know how that could have happened, or why the machine rebooted itself many, many times and sent Error Reports without this result.
Anyway, I've downloaded the new driver and everything seems to be corrected. -
Hi there,
I have the same problemCould you provide more detail as how you disassemble and inspect the interior? What did you do to change the whole situation?
thx. -

You will need to study the laptop on a clean well lighted table top.
You may also want another computer to look at the pdf file listed above for reference.
There is nothing that you can do "inside" the laptop except to wiggle any possible connections, press things and check for looseness.
As stated above, my computer came back to life and remedied with the error message above.
