Hello all, Im about to purchase a vaio FE series notebook. Tell me how does it stack up against the top of the line HP or Dell? The system will have 2.33 ghz 120 gb hard drive and 2gb of RAM.

I've been using FE790 (2GHz Core 2 Duo, 1GB, 80GB, Geforce 7600) for I guess about a couple of months. The screen's great, the laptop looks stylish, and no serious issues yet. There seems to be a bit of "Sony brand" extra in the price, even though all features considered it is good value.

Also - I HATE that it doesn't come with ANY installation cds or dvds whatsoever! And Sony won't even ship them to you afterwards if u ask them to (I did.).

Booting problem with Sony F series
I have this other sony notebook a PCG-F290, which I would like to give to my daughter. It stills works fine, but anounces a problem at booting.
After turning it on, it gives this message meaning "the hard disk is going to have a fatal faillure, to immediatly save all data. type F1 to continue. After a few weeks of having this message I saved my data and installed a new hard disK, a 40 Meg, the same that was in the computer.... But oh surprise!
On turning it on it gives exactly the same message...
So now, I do not know what to do... with this crasy message... that apears to be "fake" as once pressed F1 everything works just fine.
    Any ideas???? thanks sony users!

Check out the ASUS A8Js, ASUS W3J, ASUS Z96J, ASUS G1, Lenovo Z61T, Apple Macbook Pro, and Compal HEL-80 before you pull the trigger. Those are good choices too.
