    Hi guys

I recently acquire a VGN-SZ491N from ebay and since I don't really like Vista, so I wipe out the hard drive and install Windows 7 Ultimate from scratch. I followed the following steps and everything works fine except for the video card portion.

    A. Install Windows 7
    B. Install missing / unknown drivers
    C. Reboot and install the utilities, in the following order:

    1. Sony Utils DLL
    2. Sony Shared Library
    3. VAIO Event Service
    4. Setting Utility Series

After Step C, I reboot my laptop and then able to install Nvidia driver and upgrade the video card from generic one to Nvidia at Speed mode.

But when I manually switch from speed to stigma, nothing happen, so I would like to know what should I do to enable the Intel video card portion and make it work in Windows 7.

Please kindly shed some light for me.

The SZ cannot switch from integrated to discrete graphics without reboot. It doesn't sound like you are rebooting between switches.

A pop-up note should come on telling you to restart.

I think you are missing Control Center, which may have what you are missing.

yeah if the message doesnt show up then you dont have the Vaio control center installed. when i didnt install the vaio control center i just flipped the switch and my PC automatically switched to the Intel card after reboot, its not neccessary to have the Vaio control center but highly recommended, to help out with the switching

Thanks for all your replies. After choose the switch to Intel and reboot the laptop and then install Intel video card driver and now the dual mode of graphics is kind of working.

Is it normal that I will not be getting the warning message when I attempt to reboot from one mode to another ?

    Please advise.

you shouldn't have to install any utilities to install the video drivers

    Gomcse2002,
It's supposed to give you a popup saying to reboot to switch to the other card, that is how it works. If you are getting a popup telling you to reboot, you reboot and the light near the power button switches to the other side (speed or stamina) then everything is working.

    Boo Boo,
It's not a video driver. The system needs certain utilities and drivers and such in order to tell the motherboard which video card to use.

    Hello leslieann,

So may I know what did I miss and causing not to get the popup message ? (even though I can still dual mode between 2 video cards)

Lastly, which mode can help me saving more battery power ?? Stamina or Speed mode ?

    Please kindly advise.

    Stamina gives longer battery.

Control Center I believe triggers the popup.

I have been able to switch without it, but it's not always consistent (this was while doing some experimentation with Windows and Linux).
