    Hi:

The other day I picked up a laptop screen cleaner, (mostly distilled water), but
after wiping my screen with it, I had major streak marks on the screen which would not go away. i tried rubbing it with warm water, which seems to have made things a little better, but only marginally. Is the screen permanently ruined or is there anything I can do?

Exactly what was it that you used? And how did you apply it? What sort of cloth did you use?

I broke down and bought a $25 kit called iklean, iklear or something like that. It works perfectly on any lcd screen so far, shiny vaio or matte big monitor. It will likely last me 50 years or more.

I orginally used a microfiber cloth with my cleaner, which contained no alcohol. The warm water on the cloth with me gently rubbing on the screen seems to have made things better. so for future, is there a specific cleaner i should use?
@baroninkjet--perhaps i'll try your cleaner then

I use water with a little bit of soap + microfiber =>1 microfiber for cleaning
than a second one to buff out whatever is left over

A 'trick of the trade' for removing bad smears off matt LCD screens is to polish with a fine cloth with a little bit of Johnson's Baby Oil added. Buff with a second dry cloth. Works wonders.

Are alcohol based screen cleaners bad for the Vaio Z screen?
I own mainly lenovo and Asus computers and only use alcohol based screen wipes because they dont tend to leave streaks

I don't let alcohol anywhere near my laptops anymore. It's a solvent. I thought the 70% stuff was dilute enough to be OK but then it took some of the "aluminum" off my Macbook Pro. Granted Macs are built very cheaply, but still. I only use water and microfiber cloths now. One "dirty" one for the wash and one clean one for the dry.

I use 50/50 solution of white vinegar and water. Smells kinda funky till it evaporates but works great. Saw it online somewhere.

Yeah, I wouldn't use alcohol on my computer, definitely never ever on a LCD screen. However, if I really had to use alcohol elsewhere on my computer, I'd use it at a lower % - 70% is the concentration for killing bacteria. A far lower % should suffice for cleaning off oils and stuff (I'm thinking less than 10%).

Im only talking about screen wipes that contain some alcohol, not using anything custom made
