    Hello, all...

I received SZ440 with Vista Business.

There were too many crap software on it, so I decided to reinstall Vista.

I created a set of recovery DVDs, and reinstalled Vista successfully. I deleted hidden partition, too.

After the first bootup, I canceled the SONY recovery process, and rebooted again.

Now, I have all my drivers installed successfully, and some basic SONY program without all crappies like AOL.

However, I need to install some other goodies like WinDVD and Roxio, but I can't. I don't even launch VAIO Recovery Center, because it's not installed. :(

Is there way I extract or customize the additional installation?

    Please help!

    Thank you!

Did you try going on sony.com to download it? because they have all the programs that came with your computer. Try looking for it, good luck!

I could find only the drivers, not the program like WinDVD or Roxio.

Do you have the link available?

    Thank you!

    ahhh why use winddvd anyway?

there are so many free dvd viewing software like VideoLan player or window media player classic

    why not use those.

you can install the programs in the recovery dvd, first disc and i think...

there should be tabs on top something like "drivers" "software"

    can't quiet remember it clearly.

Sony, in its infinite wisdom, does not provide an install disk for the SZ440N (which comes with Vista Business). I did not discover this until after I bought the laptop (which I otherwise love).

The only way to get back the crapware is to reinstall back to factory configuration, which you can do by pressing F10 at the Sony logo POST screen.

For what it's worth, I bought WinDVD 8 from Intervideo, having used version 5 for some years on my prior laptops. I like the software a lot, particularly its ability to allow setting gamma, brightness, contrast and color from within the program. It runs great on Vista Business and the Vaio. Note that, in order to install WinDVD 8, I had to completely uninstall the crippleware version of WinDVD that came with the machine.

Sony has been shipping laptops without the reinstallation disks for quite some time.... Yeah, I agree WinDVD 8 is great. I bought the Platinum version & installed it on my SZ370 but I didn't have to uninstall the default WinDVD player that came on the Sony. The installation & running of both of the WinDVD works without problems. However, I do know that WinDVD 8 requires the .net framework 2.0 before it can install....

I'm trying to reinstall the OS also without the bloatware, if you dont mind sharing at which point did you cancel out of the instalation and how you did it, I would really appreciate it. I've tried twice canceling out of the OS Reinstallation and both times have ended with me being locked out of Vista (Administrative user shows up password protected, and I do not know the password.)

I just got done deleting as many programs as I can and all that is left now is Sony and Vaio stuff and Microsoft SQL stuff, which I don't even what it does or if I could delete it. I'm sure my registry is full of crap and I would love to have as much as a clean install as possible.

Any help on this is greatly appreciated.
