    Hi guys,
my first post here. I have been trying to download the drivers for my S580 from sony's support site and have had nothing but problems :(
I tried to use sony's download taxi and its the crappiest piece of software i have seen in a long time. It keeps hanging, crashing and take 100% of my cpu when running. I have spent about 20 hours and managed to download only 4 drivers.

Surprisingly my search here didnt result in any user with similar complaints. Am i doing something wrong here?

Do u guys use any other tools to download the drivers? I tried using a few ftp softwares but they all had problem with sony's ftp site.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    thanks
    Rohit

I have the same problem. It took me 1,5 hours to download the nVidia drivers (about 12MB @2KB/sec), with the CPU fully loaded! Result: the file was corrupted and I had to download the thing once again!

p.s. I'm still looking for an updated version of the nVidia 77.42, I tried the 81.98 from laptopvideo2go.com but I was unable to properly playback dvds and run Age of Empires III... any suggestion?

Why don't you use the "download now" button directly? It's pretty stable and pretty fast.

Well basically I got the same performance through the “download now” button except for the CPU that’s not running at full throttle. Maybe they had some kind of problems in their server the day I downloaded the driver I needed because the downloading process is pretty fast now.

Regarding the GPU driver, what version do you have? I don’t have a particular issue with Sony’s stock drivers, but I want to upgrade, do you think it’s gonna be wise to look for a better driver? I went through laptopvideo2go.com and installed the new drivers with the “have a disk” method, never tried downloading laptop drivers from the nVidia website.

I tried download now option too but got the same speed of 2-3 KBps and the connection kept breaking.
Yesterday I was able to download most of the drivers as the connection was better though still got less < 8 KBps.
I just wish it was a lot less time consuming and frustrating.

Btw anybody tried installing bluetooth stack on toshiba's website? It seems to be a later version than the one available on sony's drivers page.

Wow- the same thing happened to me last night when I was trying to download the latest driver to Intel Pro Wireless 2200 card. I was getting 5-10Kbps and it took me hours to download. I got an error when I tried to run the program. I will try again tonight to see if the connection gets any faster.

EPluribusUnum, I believe NVIDIA's drivers work across all GPU platforms, regardless of the systems manufacturer.
