Hi guys, I am about to take a plunge and order S580 and I want to save a bunch of money on RAM since at sonystyle.com it costs $350 extra to get 1GB of RAM....
My question is how do you actually install RAM..does it void the warranty? I never done it b4, so is it hard to do so? Please list step by step or just general easy-to-follow instruction.
Also, where should I buy the RAM from? I read over the forum and saw that newegg is the place to buy from. and How do I know which kind of RAM is compatible?
Thks in advance (if anyone has any advices on my purchase or any comments not to buy please feel free to tell me)

Read the User's guide. http://esupport.sony.com/perl/model-documents.pl?mdl=VGNS580P
It gives you a step by step procedures for installing both DIMM Sticks. If you're buying the laptop with 1 Stick of 512MB, then the other stick of 512MB is just one screw on the bottom of the laptop. It's the stick underneath the Keyboard which is slightly more difficult (But by no means hard).
The only way it will void your warranty is if the memory you add, is responsible for the damage to the laptop.
I installed Crucial memory sticks, but Corsair, Kingston, or Mushkin is just as good. I'm sure there are a lot of other brands out there as well. Just make sure the memory is compatible with the S-5xx or S-4xx. -
I have a S560P and have 512 meg of memory installed under the keyboard as stock. I have a panel under the computer that provides for another memory stick. I purchased the correct memory (PC4200 200 pin) and according to the manual, it is installed at 45 degrees, then pushs down to lay parallel to the motherboard. Mine wanted to pop up (no obvious method of locking it down). Any tricks (I used Mushkin 1 gb ram)?
Thanks
Rick
