Hi guys, I'm trying to decide between a Vaio FW or Z. If I got the FW, I would be getting it with the Ati 3650 (512vRAM) GPU. In your guys experience, how you find the FW. Are there any things I should be cautious of about the FW or any things that are really great, Ill mainly use it for photoshop, games (not harcore) watching movies. Also, how heavy/portable do you find the Vaio FW?(I go to high school and may wish to take it to school sometimes)

Have the FW285J - love it, lighter than my old HP 15.4 ", better screen and love the extra real estate with the 1920x1080 screen. Hard to go back to/work on other systems. Weight is not bad - cart mine around for work actions and movies (connecting to my TV). It's a great lappy!

    Have the 140D.

Upgraded the RAM and HDD, plus did a fresh install of Vista64. Everything runs fast and snappy.

One thing I should have opted for is the better Xbrite screen though, since this version has a bit of an uneven lighting. Might be something you wanna take note of if you plan to Photoshop with the machine.

    I really like my FW.

The Full-HD screen is beautiful and it has a really decent GPU. Though I don't play much on my Lap, I can tell you that I play Guild Wars at max resolution (1920 * 1080) and almost every setting at high and I got decent frames per second (35 ~ 60).

Bloatware sucks. Sound is thin (my girlfriend's Inspiron 1521 sounds better). Otherwise, it's beautiful! The best next to a aluminum unibody MacBook Pro! Makes me wish I had chosen a blu-ray player. Don't have money for br movies though!

I've used it to watch some shows and video clips with just talking and the speakers are fine for that, otherwise for movies I used headphones or speakerse hooked up to the FW.

I truly enjoy my FW290. Blu-ray and ATI HD 3650 for my games with my children/grandchildren make it an outstanding multi-purpose laptop all in a stylish, lightweight housing. I got rid of my desktop completely.

I still carry 2 laptops when I travel because I use a Mac for work but other than the inability to run OS X, this Sony is perfect!

    Cheers,

I'm still debating whether to go Sony FW or MacBook Pro. Mac is so much more expensive though, and for less hardware. Still I love the style of the MBP's, and the FW.

If you are fine with Windows and the apps you use are Windows apps, and you enjoy Windows-based games, then the Sony FW is for you! Much better display resolution, Blu-ray, and nice styling for a Windows laptop.

I own two Macbook Pros (not the new unibody) and do all my work on them but all my movie watching and gaming is done on the Vaio. Also, there are tonnes of complaints about new nVidia issues with the 9600 GPU in the MBP (seems to be some debate as to the cause being OS drives or nvidia's hardware). Check out macrumors.com

    Cheers,
